What To Expect (bottle bootcamp)

Bottle refusal is a symptom—not the problem.

If your baby suddenly refuses the bottle, you’re not alone. What once felt effortless can quickly become frustrating. If your baby is under 6 months old, they’re not being stubborn—they’re struggling. Taking a bottle is actually a very complicated process and it involves more than milk temperature, flow rate, and bottle brand. For most babies, bottle issues arise with specific oral issues that prevent your baby from being able to functionally take a bottle. Every bottle refusal has a reason. My job is to find it.

What happens during a bottle refusal consult?

Once you’re booked, we’ll set a time for the consultation. Consultations will be done in your home or virtually and take 60 minutes. I will bring several different styles of bottles. If you could have pumped breastmilk or formula ready, that would be great! I will do a thorough assessment of your baby’s mouth and together, we will determine where your baby is struggling. Based on the identified growth areas, I will provide you with 2-3 oral exercises to complete daily. The exercises are designed to be completed several times each day. Once the growth areas have been determined, we will do a bottle trial. Using the top only of a hand-selected bottle, I will evaluate your baby’s oral function as they interact with a bottle. If your baby seems to be progressing well, we will add milk to the bottle and repeat the bottle trial.

I will provide you a 2 week game plan to follow. The goal is that your baby will comfortably take 2 ounces of milk every time the bottle is offered. Combining oral exercises with specific bottles will help your baby be a bottle-feeding champ!

Please note that if you’d like to purchase the selected bottle from me, we can do that. I charge $15 per bottle. If you’d rather receive an amazon link, we can do that too.

The process is simple.

  • identify what’s going on in baby’s mouth

  • receive 2-3 curated oral exercises

  • select bottle that matches baby’s anatomy

  • complete exercises + bottle trials for 2 weeks

  • baby should be able to comfortably take 2 ounces every time the bottle is offered
